Here’s looking at you!

Howdy!  My name is Amy, and I’m the creator of the content here at ‘Of Grace And Stitches’.

I’ve been in love with writing since I was a teenager.  I’ve come a long way from the scribbles of beaten up composition books full of angst and poetry.  I’ve tried my hand at NaNoWriMo, and ‘won’!), and my love for prose continues to grow.  Writing is a daily adventure for me; writing to multiple pen pals, both here and in Europe, jotting down ideas and outlines in my journal, or just emailing a quick poem to a friend.  I’m happy to be taking it a step further, and hoping to expand my horizons with a new blog.

I’m a thirty-something year old mom and wife, living in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia.  My awesome hubby works in finance by day, and brews beer in his spare time.  I don’t want to brag . . . but I will.  He’s part of a local home brewing club and he’s won a few awards for his delicious beer.  We tell folks that the secret to our marriage is the fact that I knit him socks, and he brews me beer.

Speaking of knitting, it is a true passion and a real love affair for me.  I’ve rarely met a yarn that I didn’t like.  I’ve worked with plenty that I go back to, time and time again.  My favorite projects to knit are socks and lace shawls.  And while I may knit more for other people than I do myself, (my mother gets a pair of hand-knit socks every Christmas and birthday,) I still have quite a collection that I love to wear and show off when the weather permits. I also dabble in spinning my own yarn.  While I’m not professional, I did win a ribbon once for a skein, and I continue to work on my technique.

Spun by yours truly!

I’m one of those lucky people who truly loves their day job.  I work full-time as a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant,) at a local nursing home/physical therapy facility.  I work on the unit that contains mostly the later.  Every day is new and exciting, as there is never a dull moment when caring for people.  I’ve met some truly amazing individuals in my time there.  From simple farmers and house wives, to former local politicians and lawyers, my patients come from all walks of life.  Once I cared for a former WWII Dutch Resistance Fighter, and a former Tuskegee Airman!

Of all my hobbies, and all my accomplishments, by far my favorite is being a mom.  While having a toddler has its challenges, (have you ever tried to clean the kitchen, while your child is ‘feeding’ the dog … all over the pantry floor?), I still enjoy every minute.  She’s the best thing that has ever happened to me, and has saved me in more ways that she knows.

I hope that you’ll enjoy your visit, and that you’ll continue to stop by, sit for a while, and read all about the lively and fiber-filled moments that make up my days.  Don’t be afraid to comment, and follow me on Instagram and Facebook.  Come be part of this wonderful undertaking and adventure!
